What do soft purples and grayish blues make you think of? Misty mornings and foggy evenings? Me too! So when I was invited to play around with some of those exact hues in luscious Island Batik fabrics in Sherry Shish's new Signature Line, Morris Mist, I knew EXACTLy what I was going to make!
First, let's look at the amazing fabrics - so you can see for yourself, and choose your favorites for your next project.
Aren't they lovely? I know - you want to use every single one of them, don't you?! Me too! But I limited myself to just a few. Want to see what I came up with?
Here are the wonderful fabrics I used for this new project. Three different purples (you know how I LOVE to use shades of a color, right?!), and of course two different blues (one with a bit of purple mixed in!). Oh - and I added a bit of Sprinkles, one of Island Batik's whites. You'll see why in just a bit!
Does this look a little familiar??? It should! It's a miniature of one of my larger patterns. Which one? Let's see if you can guess. Here's one more hint!
Did you guess Winter Woods? Then you'd be right! The Grove is a miniature version of my popular Winter Woods pattern, one of my guided improv patterns.
This is Winter Woods, a large lap size (62" x 68") quilt. I love it! While I'm a summer girl, by the time winter rolls around, I'm loving the crisp days, the stark landscape and the look of the bare tree branches. This captures all of that!
So when I saw the rich Morris Mist fabrics, I knew immediately it was PERFECT to create Winter Woods in miniature form! So I proudly introduce you to The Grove. This little beauty finishes at approximately 12 1/2" x 13 1/2".
Why miniaturize my Winter Woods pattern? Well, for one thing, tiny things are so stinkin' cute! And if you want to try out a technique, doing it on a small scale is less intimidating. Doing guided improv small scale gives you a taste of the technique without taking a lot of time or fabric. And you'll have a lovely little piece of art to grace your wall in no time!
Can you get a pattern for The Grove to make for your very own? Of course! Preorders are available now. It is currently being tested, and anticipated ship date is January 10th, 2024 (but it may be sooner, depending upon when I receive the test results back!). You can find the pattern here on my website!
While you are in maker mode, did you know I have a fun little on-demand class that is perfect for the holidays? You can sign up and take Mod Balls, a quick family friendly ornament making class. Did I mention that it's only $10.00? And you can watch it as many times as you want? Get all the details here!
