Scissors – snip, snip, snip……
We all know rotary cutters have revolutionized the quilting industry. Like many quilters, I can’t image having to trace shapes onto cardboard or newsprint, and then (urgh, can you say manual – and SLOW?) cut each out. One. At. A. Time. With scissors!
So rotary cutters get a lot of attention – and use. And well they should. Essential equipment in the sewing room – definitely.
But the humble scissor is not to be forgotten. And like most “standard” pieces of equipment, scissors come in all shapes, sizes, models. Like any good connoisseur, I have made it my sworn duty to inspect and test pretty much every pair of scissors I come across.
Some of my favs? Nothing beats my big, sexy, heavy, shiny gingers – they are the Cadillac of shears – but not great for small jobs, where their weight and size get in the way. And my sweet little Mundials, with their super cute white and pink cushioned handles and wonderfully long, sharp points are super.
But…..my all-time fav – my “scissor-crush” of all time – have to be my Olfas. They are the perfect mix of form and function. The handles are slightly oversized (perfect for those gals like me that aren’t exactly, ahem…., dainty in the hands), and the blades are short, but wonderfully sharp and with a point that will get into the tightest corners. Divine.
And I’ve had this sweet little pair for more than a year – and the blades are still nice and tight. You know how some scissors will loosen up over time? Not these. Olfa hit a grand slam with these!
