Hello and welcome to Week Six (yikes - has it been six weeks already??!!) of the Creative Spaces Blog Hop!
This week the sixteen designers in the hop will be focusing on dealing with rulers in the creative space. The rulers used may vary, but we all face the struggle - how do you organize your rulers so you can protect them and yet easily access them?
I have VERY limited wall space in my studio, so my biggest struggle is finding a practical, accessible space for my rulers. My go-to solution? Command hooks on the end of my sewing table.
If you're going to take a similar approach, my suggestion is to measure out the available space and follow the same guidelines suggested for hanging pictures: make paper templates of the ruler sizes and tape them up against the space to see how to best make use of available space.
I was thrilled to be able to hang my 24" ruler, along with my 12 1/2" square, my 6 1/2" square AND my 14" ruler. These are my daily use rulers - and having them at the end of the cutting table means they are always right at hand. And at the end of the day, I hang them back up so I know right where they are - and so they don't get broken.
Have you ever knocked a ruler off a table - or set something down on top of the ruler and broken it? Nope? Just me? Well, even so, hanging the rulers back up at the end of the day protects them from harm AND keeps things tidier.
What about the rulers I DON'T use every day? I shelve those bad boys. I stand them up on end in one of my cubbies (remember the cubbies from the fabric post? yep - those), smallest to largest.
But my favorite new discovery has to be these Iris Scrapbook Totes! They are the PERFECT size for most rulers (with the exception of rulers over 13"). And to make things even better, if you want to keep smaller rulers organized and easy to find, use the clear plastic hanging file folders made for the tote.
As you can see, I keep my Studio 180 rulers in the tote. I have a hanging folder for each ruler, which makes them easy to find. And I can keep the directions that come with each ruler in the same hanging file.
Because it is a tote, it has a handy dandy handle. And bonus - the top is also a small storage area, so you can tuck necessary tools for class in there. The rectangular shape will be easy to store and stack, so I'm actually thinking of getting more and putting all of my rulers except for those at the end of the cutting table into totes.
Since it is the final week, let's blow it out with some awesome giveaways! I will be choosing some folks at random from my blog subscribers, from comments on my Facebook page, and from comments on my Instagram feed.
