I am SOOOO excited to welcome you to the Kismet Blog Hop!
We are celebrating the launch of my newest line with Island Batik, Kismet (you kinda guessed that one already, huh?). Fabrics are shipping to shops now, so we would like to share with you some of the amazing projects that designers have created using this fabulously fun, bright line!
Let's look at the Island Batik fabrics first. This line has a bohemian vibe, and is full of vibrant color. It has a terrific mix of contrasting motifs and some fabrics that read as solids - which is awesome!
Kismet Fabrics:
Which is your favorite Island Batik fabric? I know - I have a hard time picking, too! Each is lovely on its own, but together - can I just say wow? But wait until you see the projects! I am always amazed at how each designer's interpretation of the fabrics yield such lovely quilts. You are going to want to make them all - just sayin'.
Kismet Thread Collection:
There's a wonderful Aurifil thread collection that coordinates beautifully with the fabrics. It is in a weight that I'm currently crushing on - 28 wt. Have you worked with 28 wt? It is a marvelous solution to quilting and embellishing - heavier than a 50wt, which is what many quilt with, but lighter than the 12 wt, which was my previous go-to for edge stitching. Want your own? You can get it here.
I used the Aurifil Kismet threads, plus my Kismet fabrics, to create this fun little Valentine's project, Your Love Gives Me Wings. I just adore how the 28 wt looks against the batiks and the wool (I used National Nonwovens Bamboo "felt" for the base of the ornament). Love it? You can get it as a download here! I also used this thread to edge stitch on the After the Rain quilt AND the Fate quilt (previews coming below!).
Let's look at some quilts using the Kismet Fabric!
I can imagine what some of you are thinking - I don't do curves. I hear you! Loud and clear! That's why After the Rain has no curved piecing. Really! It uses a fun faux-curved technique that mimics the LOOK of curved piecing without all the stress. It's precut friendly, so pull out those 10" squares (or better yet, purchase a precut 10" square set) and stitch up your own blooms! And it offers a fun opportunity for some embellishment! The edges of each bloom were edge-stitched with the Kismet 28wt Aurifil thread collection. What fun! And you can find After the Rain here! Use the code "Kismet" to get $1.00 of your order of After the Rain!
Diamond Dance is a modern paper pieced pattern. I love the different size diamonds dripping down the surface of the quilt in neat vertical rows! Just a few colors, mixed and matched in different diamonds throughout the quilt, plus a dip-your-toe-in-the-water blue background make this an inviting project! This pattern also offers two size! Currently available for preorder here. Use the code "Kismet" to get $1.00 of your order of Diamond Dance!
Last but not least of my Kismet quilts is Fate. I LOVE the twisty turny rows of wedges that snake across the quilt. All those wonderful greens are amazing against a deep blue background! And guess what?! No curved piecing in this project either! It makes terrific use of Creative Grid's 30 degree ruler (or use the template shape included in the pattern and trace your own wedge) to make each block. I edge stitched each curve with - yup, you guessed it! - the turquoise 28wt from my Aurifil Kismet thread collection! Fate is also currently available for preorder here. Use the code "Kismet" to get $1.00 of your order of Fate!
But wait - there's more! Eight other designers worked with my Kismet collection and created some stunning projects! They will be sharing their projects with you this week, so you'll want to check out each and every post. And they will sharing more enticing pictures on Instagram as well, so check those out. Please show your love by following and sharing posts and pictures!
