Welcome to the Adventure in Color Quilt Along Block Five. Oh my - where did the time go? It's hard to believe we are already at Block Five.
Let me introduce you to Juna or Juno - goddess of the new moon, of marriage, of pregnancy, and of childbirth. Yes, you might say she's a woman's woman - err, goddess! Interestingly, the word "juna" means "born in June" (ok, can totally see that!), "source of life", and sometimes "the moon."
Fun Facts on Juna
Fun facts: the Romans considered her the protector of the state, as well as counselor. She was the daughter of Saturn, wife of Jupiter, and the mother to Mars, Vulcan, Bellona, and Juventas. Her sacred animal? The peacock.
You may frequently see her portrayed in armor - which makes total sense, as she was protector of the state. No shrinking violet, delicate flower was she!
The Juna block is as steady and strong as the goddess it is named after. It even has a slight shield appearance!
HSTs and Flying Geese, Oh My!
Ready to tackle your Juna block? Great! By now you will have honed your HST (half square triangle) and flying geese game! Need a refresher? Refer back to this post on HSTs and this one on Flying Geese. Hint: I show you SEVEN (yup seven!) different ways to make HSTs! In case you missed it!
One last little tidbit - you may have noticed that the blocks are getting larger. No, you weren't imagining things! Think on this - how amazing would several Juna blocks look as coordinating pillows for your Luminous quilt?! I know!
Head over to Kate's blog, where she'll share more tips and enticing pictures for you! Oh - and a little birdie told me she has a fun new give away for you too! I know - pretty amazing!
