Welcome to Week 11 of the Quilting Around the Block State Block Hop! This week - Georgia!
Georgia's block - the Dogwood Blossom. Full confession: no, the dogwood blossom is NOT the official state flower. But....when I think of my home state, I think of the dogwood blossoms that cover the landscape in snowy white beauty every spring. So for me, dogwood blossoms = Georgia.
Some say the dogwood blossom represents the crucifixion, with the nails from the cross being represented by the rusty dark marks at the end of each petal, while the tree grows crooked as a result of its wood being used to construct the cross. Others say its petals are stained by blood of an Indian maiden, killed by a jealous suitor.
No matter which legend you choose - if any - the flowers are delicate and beautiful.
The block is super easy to construct. You have the option of needle turn or fusible appliqué.
You can get your very own Dogwood Blossom pattern for FREE on my website. All you have to do - sign up for my newsletter! Easy peasy! Follow the link (click on the red hyperlinked words) to sign up.
Update: Had a LENGTHY discussion with my website tech support this am. So here is the deal:
- To receive the automated Welcome email with the download link embedded, you must follow the red hyperlinked words above and go to my website to sign up for my website newsletter. Subscriptions to my blog are MOST WELCOME (the blog has different content than the website - ongoing informational series, tutorials, hops, while the website newsletter will announce upcoming events such as blog hops, new pattern and product releases, and new fabrics, tools or other website listings.
- You MUST complete the Captcha verification when signing up for the newsletter, or the newsletter signup will not be complete. Sorry that is an automatic setting for the website. Acccording to tech support, some folks have device or browser settings that may prevent popups/captchas from loading. You will need to adjust your browser settings to support that.
- The Welcome email has a pdf LINK in it. According to tech support, if you don't have Adobe PDF reader downloaded, Chrome MAY be able to download it as a PDF - MAYBE. However, they did note that Microsoft Edge does have difficulty downloading/opening PDFs. Sorry folks - just trying to cover all bases here.
- If you are already a Tamarinis Newsletter subscriber (not a blog subscriber), I'll be sending out an email to you at the end of the day today. If you are a Tamarinis Blog Subscriber (two different things!), thank you! And I invite you to subscribe to my newsletter (See Item #1 above).
Want tips on fusible appliqué and machine appliqué? Check out my Exploring the Basics post on Machine appliqué, and Kate Colleran's post on fusible appliqué (linked in my blog post).
Once you sign up for the newsletter, you will receive an email with the download link to download your pdf pattern (please please please give time for the email to be sent - it may take a bit of time!).
Want a kit for the block as shown above? Well, I can do that! Grab your kit here (kit includes printed pattern and fabrics to complete the block as shown).
